The shadows she observed in the grass inspired her to develop an approach that however, did not paint the chosen object on canvas. If the object is alive or a thing that can be eaten, like humans and fruits, they become a painting of their own. The transient nature of her painterly style is obvious and the only thing that remains in Alexa Meade's art is a photographs. Trompe l'oeil is achieved using the two processes of painting and photographing. This creates two-dimensional flattened image. Meade is also able to integrate her painted models within the 3D space that surrounds them. The interaction between them as well as the world they created can be achieved. The line that separates painting and photography is removed.
